PRP Therapy:

a promising non-surgical technique where the patient’s own platelets are injected into damaged tissues. This initiates a strong healing response which improves mobility and eliminates pain.

Studies are showing excellent results using platelet rich plasma to heal damaged ligaments, tendons and muscles. Platelets are responsible for attracting white blood cells into injured areas to tidy up damaged or dead cells, which often produce swelling and lead to chronic inflammation and pain known as tendonitis.

This chronic damage, once thought to be active inflammation has since been renamed tendinosis signifying a more degenerative process has occurred. The area is now at a halt with respect to healing while pain and debility continue.

Concentrated amounts of platelets introduced to the injured area not only draw white blood cells in to clean up, they also release growth factors that are directly responsible for tissue regeneration.>/

PRP has been used for years in surgical centers to improve the success of bone grafting, dental surgery and cosmetic surgery. More recently, doctors began to use PRP for athletic injuries to speed healing. The results were so promising that the technique caught on not just for acute injuries but also for chronic pain as well.

All joints, ligaments and tendons are treatable areas whether the problem is acute or chronic.

Conditions such as tennis elbow, chronic low back pain, unstable knees, ACL/MCL tears, pelvis instability, Achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff tears & AC joint sprains, meniscal tears, osteoarthritis, and neck pain are responding with much promise where other therapies have plateaued or failed.

Orthopedics and Physiotherapy:

Orthopedics is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, correction, prevention, and treatment of patients with skeletal deformities – disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and skin. These elements make up the musculoskeletal system.

Your body’s musculoskeletal system is a complex system of bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves and allows you to move, work and be active. Once devoted to the care of children with spine and limb deformities, orthopedics now cares for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet, to young athletes requiring arthroscopic surgery, to older people with arthritis.

Our Staff at Waterfront are trained extensively in the area of orthopedics and rehabilitation. This will be typically being suggested as part of your overall treatment plan to ensure proper pain free range of motion and movement becomes possible and sustainable long term for you.

Nutritional Analysis:

A holistic approach to proper nutrition encourages education on how to develop a diet that incorporates natural and organic foods, natural supplements and food treatments for chronic health conditions.

A fundamental principle of nutrition is that food provides the necessary energy needed for our bodies to properly function, and also supplies the nutrients that are required to build and regenerate bone, muscle, fat and blood. These nutrients derived from food are crucial for the natural processes that constantly take place inside the body. Sound nutrition involves the components of macronutrients, which include carbohydrates, protein and fats; and micronutrients, which include vitamins, minerals and fiber. These components all play an important role in how the body functions and are essential to a complete, balanced diet.

Naturopathic Medicine:

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary health care that emphasizes prevention and the self-healing process through the use of natural therapies. While the roots of naturopathic medicine date back to the 1890s, naturopathic medicine has witnessed a rapid increase in public interest in recent years as a result of the growing consumer movement to solve the health care puzzle using prevention, wellness and respect for nature’s inherent healing ability.

Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are primary care physicians who blend centuries-old knowledge and a philosophy that nature is the most effective healer with current research on health and human systems. They have attended a four-year naturopathic medical school, are clinically trained, and work in all aspects of family health — from pediatric to geriatric care. Most NDs provide primary care through office-based private practice, but a growing number are in clinic settings.

Naturopathic diagnosis focuses on identifying the underlying causes of disease, while naturopathic therapies are supported by research drawn from peer-reviewed journals from many disciplines, including naturopathic medicine, conventional medicine, European complementary medicine, clinical nutrition, physiotherapy, pharmacognosy, homeopathy, psychology and spirituality.

The therapeutic modalities used in naturopathic medicine (including physical manipulation, clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy and hydrotherapy) integrate conventional, scientific and empirical methodology with the ancient laws of nature.

Regenerative Medicine:

Joint injuries are very common, and unfortunately can lead to chronic pain and mobility limitations.  We often wonder why an injury can take so long to heal, or what can be done to speed up the recovery process.  Tendons and ligaments can take a while to heal due to the fact that they contain limited blood flow and circulation, which for some, means long-lasting pain and recurrent chronic symptoms. Prolotherapy targets these sites specifically, bringing about repair and regeneration to the tendons and ligaments. This process can resolve up to 90% of the pain a person may have been experiencing, given an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

 Prolotherapy is an injection procedure used to treat connective tissue injuries of the musculoskeletal system that have not healed by either rest or other nonsurgical therapies. The injections promote a healing response in small tears and weakened tissue, with the goal of alleviating pain and restoring mobility and function.

 An accurate diagnosis requires specific identification of the “trouble” areas, where the connective tissue, tendons or ligaments may have been damaged.  The treatment is usually an injection of dextrose and an anesthetic into the tissue.  The dextrose leads to a normal inflammatory response: generating increased blood flow into the ligament or tendon and temporarily increasing pain, but ultimately restoring the body’s healing process.

Prolotherapy is used for pain management and treatment of numerous conditions. Almost all joints in the body can be successfully treated with prolotherapy if the situation warrants it. Relief can be achieved within a few days of treatment; however, most people can expect to have three or more treatments before complete pain relief is achieved.   A follow-up treatment is usually scheduled for between one to three weeks after the initial appointment, but the process is not fully complete until six weeks after the final treatment.

Trigger Point Injections:

Trigger Point injections are used to target and alleviate muscle pain in one or more areas of your body. Typically, a brief course of treatment brings sustained relief. This treatment is especially suited for those struggling with myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, migraines, and tension headaches. Trigger point injections often include procaine and B12 and other various solutions that help soothe the area and the make the treatment more comfortable.

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture is the most widely used form of alternative medicine in the world and has been in existence for over 2000 years. Acupuncture stimulates healing in the body by placing fine needles in various locations on the body to help to re-direct the flow of blood and energy, known as Qi.  Pain and chronic disease occur in areas of the body where blood flow is stagnant and blocked. When acupuncture points are stimulated, it helps to unblock these areas to resolve pain, prevent disease, improve immune function, and restore the overall balance of the body.

An Acupuncture session will help to activate the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems. This activation releases hormones to help alleviate pain and establish an overall sense of happiness and wellbeing.  It also releases pressure on joint structures and nerves which allows better circulatory flow and an overall help for the body to heal and detoxify.

Acupuncture can effectively treat conditions such as:

  • Acute or Chronic Pain;
  • Sports and work-related injuries;
  • Arthritis, tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome;
  • Headaches;
  • Stress;
  • Anxiety;
  • High blood pressure;
  • Insomnia;
  • Hormonal Imbalances;
  • Digestive concerns;
  • Thyroid conditions

Acupuncture is a safe and effective therapy to use alone or in conjunction with other modalities you are currently using. A session is relaxing, gentle and pain free. Benefits of treatment may include:

  • Speeds Healing and Recovery;
  • Increases Energy;
  • Reduces Stress;
  • Improves Quality of Sleep;
  • Improves Digestion;
  • Relieves Muscle Tension;
  • Improves Circulation;
  • Boosts Immune Function;
  • Regulates Blood Pressure.

Acupuncture is covered by most extended health plans. Make sure to check with your insurance provider.

Testosterone Therapy:

Beginning around the age of 30, male Testosterone levels begin to drop. You may accept this decline as a natural part of life and aging but this is simply not true. Why accept this as fate when you could do something about it?

For many reasons whether it be environmental (chemical versions of estrogens), dietary (low nutrient intake), psychological (depression) or chemical (drugs and environmental toxins), testosterone levels are dropping at a precipitous rate in not just older, but younger men as well. In fact, if you look back at historical data your grandfather’s testosterone was nearly twice as high as yours at similar points in your life and it is well documented that testosterone levels have dropped by half over the last 2 generations.

Low testosterone levels can have devastating effects on your health and has been linked to cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome. This makes it absolutely essential that a responsible physician observe the patient, listen to symptoms, then evaluate and treat accordingly to restore his health and vitality. The great news is that all of the side effects and symptoms of testosterone deficiency can be reversed, many of them faster than you would think. Depending on the root cause of your testosterone deficiency treatment plans differ from patient to patient.

Common signs and symptoms of andropause or low levels of testosterone levels are: fatigue & lethargy, low sex drive, decreased muscle mass, depression & mood swings, increased body fat, decreased bone mass, hair loss and lack of motivation. Depending on how low and fast we need to move treatment range from nutrient, herbal all the way up to prescription Testosterone and DHEA as needed.

Men on appropriate testosterone supporting or replacement therapy will experience increases in strength, improved erections, increased sex drive, decreased body fat, improved blood markers and better results in their annual physicals. For many men, this can be life changing.

 Don’t accept your symptoms and lack of vitality as a part of the aging process you can do nothing about. Take control of your hormones and ultimately your health and you will immediately begin to look and feel younger.

Energy Injections:

Micronutrient Injection Therapy are designed to deliver high dose vitamins that are difficult to absorb through food or supplementation. The injection is given into the muscle (intramuscularly) completely bypassing the digestive tract, which increases the absorption rate and bio availability.

Our vitamin shots are formulated to address common symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, and stress. You will work with our physicians to help educate you on the benefits and help you select the perfect shot for you.
